I'm tired so a little more about me...

In my previous "About me" post, I mostly talked about my experience with movies. But I've been tired and busy this week with work things so I am going to switch things up and talk about that instead. What kind of a job brings an academic to the middle of nowhere?  I do agricultural research. Specifically I work with farmers on ways to minimize fertilizer loss from their fields. That's a win-win. They don't have to spend as much money on fertilizer and the rest of us get cleaner water. My work branches out beyond that to soil conservation and also to testing strategies we can use when a field keeps losing nutrients beyond what the farmer can control. "Legacy Phosphorus" is one example of that (In plain English: The farmer's grandfather applied so much animal manure to one spot that it still actively pollutes the water).  One of the great things about my day job is that I get to do a lot of working with people. But one of the not-so-great p

It's only fair that hot on the heels of Resident Evil (2002) I cover another entry in zombie video game movie adaptations. And oh what an entry it is. Now that I've brought up vampires in a post about zombies, I need to include a brief aside about terminology (CAUTION: The fact that I am an academic is about to become suuuuper obvious).

Before we begin - A little about me

Welcome Blaugust aficionados (and of course anyone else who happens upon the blog)! I am really excited to be starting this shiny new blog for Blaugust 2024 . I do occasionally write blog posts for work but I've never had my own blog before. When Everwake told me that Blaugust was starting soon and that he was signing up, I decided that this was my year. And I've decided to use this corner of the internet to geek out about movies. My theme for the month of August is going to be "Video Game Adaptations." More on that later. Before we begin a little about me... I have always loved watching movies, but I didn't realize how avid of a movie watcher I was until somewhat recently. I borrowed countless movies from my public library, watched movies on cable (but not HBO, my father was not paying for that), and rented movies from the grocery store. Remember renting movies from the grocery store?? But it just seemed like normal stuff everyone was doing. The day of prom ever
